Typing your keyword into Google Maps and looking at where you land is the cheapest way to "check your ranking" — and the least reliable. Why one search isn’t your ranking
Personalization skews what you see. If you’re logged into the Google account tied to your business’s Search Console or Business Profile, Maps has years of signals about which businesses you’ve visited, clicked or reviewed. It shows you a version of the results shaped by that history — not necessarily what a stranger searching the same term sees. Even logged out, browser and device history can still nudge results.
Location is approximate, not exact.
